The Foundation Mercator derives its name from the German cartographer Gerhard Mercator. He was one of the first to dare think on a global scale and introduce worldwide coordinates to support the world trade. In the spirit of its eponym, the Foundation Mercator stands among other things for cosmopolitanism and an unrestricted exchange of knowledge. It has supported projects such as Umweltschulen and ChagALL.
